I'm thinking that the only "ingrate" whose opinion matters here is the ingrate currently occupying the Oval Office...who has made it abundantly clear that he really doesn't like either America or the vast majority of Americans.

And - pardon my language - fuck him too.

As for Haiti: the country is an ongoing catastrophe that has been bailed out by America any number of times. The earthquake is just the latest chapter in an ongoing saga of misery.

At some point Haitians are just going to have to learn how to stand on their own two feet.

They are desperate to avoid the hanging tree when SS and Medicare checks can no longer be covered in a year or two. Hence, the frenzy to pass this shit because they get a four year revenue stream with no liabilities even scheduled during that time. They hope that will give them time to come up with enough funds to avoid the hangings they have earned when the vast inattentive public majority is forced to see the embezzlement of funds that were supposed to be inviolate.

This is not about health care, it's not about legacy, it's about survival. Physical survival not even political survival. They are scared silly that the time has come to pay the piper. If they can run just one more scam it will buy them some years to come up with another scam to avoid the consequences of this one. On and on it goes.

SA - the UK has been a steadfast ally and our best partner in Afghanistan. Their government is far from perfect, but they are dedicated to being committed allies to the United States. As much as I loathe much of what they do socially, I will NEVER slam them for their support downrange.
