Not unexpected
But repugnant to every idea of liberty anyway.
Ostensibly in response to Nidal Hasan's terrorist attack on our troops at Ft. Hood, the usual suspects, including Frank Lautenberg, Dianne Feinstein, Michigan's Own Embarrassment Carl Levin and Chuckles "I gotz assault weapon" Schumer have introduced de facto gun registration in the Senate. The unsuitably named, PROTECT Act prevents the "destruction of terrorist and criminal national instant criminal background check system records."
So who is getting protected here?
Not law-abiding Americans who want to purchase a firearm and whose names wind up on a terrorist list by mistake! Just remember - they wouldn't let Ted Kennedy on a plane because his name popped up on a terrorist watchlist!
Hasan purchased guns legally. He was an Army officer with a clean record. There was no reason for him to be denied the purchase. And there was no reason for him to be denied access to the base. No amount of legislative wrangling is going to change those facts. No amount of tyrannical branding of gun owners as potential terrorists and criminals will change that.
Tell you what, though. Since the majority of murderous rages seem to be coming from Muslims lately, how about we just create a registry of Muslims as potential terrorists and deny them the ability to exercise their Second Amendment rights?
Don't like that? Mr. Lautenberg, Mr. Schumer, Ms. Feinstein, Mr. Levin? Sound too much like religious persecution? Then why the blazing fuck are four out of six sponsors of this travesty Jewish? Is religious persecution abhorrent, while persecution of people making a simple purchase is OK? I'd say based on events of the last two decades, Muslims are more dangerous to the safety and security of this nation than simple folks who legally exercise their Second Amendment rights.
Hasan contacted al Qaida. He publicly stated his crazy, fundamentalist asshole views to fellow members of the military. And yes, he purchased firearms.
I ask you, which danger sign should raise your hackles more - the fact that this Islamist asshole communicated with proven, professed terrorists, publicly confessed his radical, anti-American views WHILE serving as an officer in the United States Army, and even had a business card listing him as a Soldier of Allah, or the fact that he purchased a weapon?
I know any SANE person would answer with the latter. But you biased, anti-freedom jerks can't even see how repugnant you are!

Those you named would have been Judenrat in the camps. They think they are here.

Just remember that those senators hate and fear an armed, freedom-loving populace and all are anti-military as well as anti-gun. To them, merely enlisting in the US Armed Forces is akin to a terrorist act.

Major Hasan was a serving officer at the time of the Ft. Hood murders, and although he is still in the hospital, and is facing charges, he is still a serving officer.
"So what, Ward, get to the point!"
He will be tried in a Court Martial on thirteen counts of Murder, plus whatever else the Judge Advocate General can come up with.
Presuming that he's found guilty, for each count:
1. He shall be reduced to the lowest enlisted rank.
2. He shall forfeit all pay and allowances.
3. "...he shall suffer death or imprisonment for life as a court-martial may direct."
Since it's very unlikely that he'll actually be executed ("Executed a cripple? You brute!"), he'll likely be a charge upon my tax dollar for a long time.
And what do you bet that after conviction, some bleeding heart says "He's a cripple now, as a result of being shot by the Army! Let him go, he's suffered enough!"
Phooey.
