Four Minutes

For those of you out there who say we don't need guns to protect our homes, and that we should just call the police when some violent swine invades our home and threatens the lives of our loved ones, I submit the following:

Then, authorities said, he packed two handguns, drove to this bustlingmilitary base, and opened fire on a brigade of young engineers preppingto deploy to Afghanistan after Christmas. In a matter of about fourminutes -- before he himself was taken down in a face-to-face shootoutwith a female police officer -- he killed 13 people and wounded 30.

Four minutes.  Four minutes to kill 13 and wound 30.  Four minutes for a police officer to arrive at the scene and dispatch this motherfucker to a hospital.

Four minutes.

How long do you think it will take the police to get to your home after you call them?  What kind of damage can an armed intruder cause to you and yours in four minutes?  Doesn't seem real long, does it?  Until you're faced with an armed thug in your home, and you're waiting for help to arrive.

Just a thought.

A note from my friend Dave: Reminds me of the old joke about NYC: Average response time for an ambulance -- 20 min. Average response time for the police -- 14 minutes. Average delivery time for Chinese food -- 6 minutes. Solution: We should arm and teach CPR to Chinese delivery boys.

Once again you are correct! 4 minutes for a police officer to be dispatched and arrive anywhere within 4 minutes is about 99% faster than most response times.
What is amazing to me, among many questions about what happened, is how a civilian police officer was able to respond to the scene, engage the active shooter and take him out before the military/base police arrived? Yes, she and her partner were on the base directing traffic but jeez the mp's didn't get there first? And, no one else in the area was armed?

Chief, no one is generally armed on a military base except for military police and those engaged in military exercises.  Those who are doing maneuvers are not anywhere where there are civilians, living quarters, etc. A military base, contrary to popular belief, is a huge victim disarmament zone.  I'm surprised the MPs didn't get there first either. I don't know why not. Thank goodness she got there, at least!

Why haven't you installed that super alarm system that scares off the intruder as soon as he forces an entry into your home plus you get an immediate reassuring telephone call (from India??)advising that"Help Is On The Way" What more does any American Citizen need for self protection?
