But it worked SO well in Britain!

What is it about stupid politicians who are too arrogant to realize the failure of their statist policies?  It seems failed policies will somehow work better if *insert name of idiot politician from moron nation here* implement them!

Hello, stupid!

If elected prime minister, NDP Leader Jack Layton promised Sunday to give all the provinces and territories the power to implement a total handgun ban in their jurisdictions.

[...]

“Yesterday I was in Alberta to argue that Canada needs to get a lot tougher on gangs, on crime, on the causes of crime and on handguns. And I was greeted by a few protesters who wanted Canada to deal with handguns the way the United States does,” Mr. Layton said.

“Here's what I have to say them: Americans pay a terrible price for their reckless approach to firearms, and people in this country don't want that here.”

Erm... According to a 1998 article by Morgan O. Reynolds published in the Wall Street Journal, the Canucks may want to reconsider that stance.

The conventional wisdom is that the U.S. is the most crime-ridden of modern industrial democracies. Yet the truth is that in many respects we have less crime--and America's crime rate has been declining dramatically.

Property crimes represent about nine out of 10 serious crimes. The burglary rate in Australia is 40% higher than that in the U.S., in Canada 12% higher and in England and Wales 30% higher. Sweden and the Netherlands, despite their reputations as nearly crime-free, have burglary rates 35% and 84% greater than the U.S. Only a few nations, including France and Switzerland, have lower burglary rates than the U.S. The picture is much the same for auto theft.

I guess they haven't learned the British lesson yet.  Or maybe they'll learn to cover up real figures just like the Brits did in order to pretend they're actually doing something about their violent crime rates, despite their ban on guns.

THE government was accused yesterday of covering up the full extent of the gun crime epidemic sweeping Britain, after official figures showed that gun-related killings and injuries had risen more than fourfold since 1998.

The Home Office figures - which exclude crimes involving air weapons - show the number of deaths and injuries caused by gun attacks in England and Wales soared from 864 in 1998-99 to 3,821 in 2005-06. That means that more than 10 people are injured or killed in a gun attack every day.

Gun ban doesn't seem to be working in Britain, but I'm sure, in his supreme arrogance, Jack Laydon thinks he can do it better.

Wow, considering that 15k of our 30k deaths are suicides, and about half of those remaining are justifiable.....and they have how many people? And we have how many people? It seems to me that their ban on guns has gotten them a higher violent crimes with guns rate than we have. Hmm... How's that gun ban treating you?
